New Folding@Home Client

The new multi-core, GPU enabled Folding@Home client has been released!

Folding@Home is a distributed software project which utilises unused processing power on your computer help cure diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s disease, and many cancers.

All my computers at home run the folding@home client and I am very excited about this new release. I hope everything reading this will sign up and contribute to this effort.

A little update

Just a brief note to say I’ve not forgotten about my readers or this site! I have been busy getting myself together to apply for a postgraduate masters degree in Software Engineering, and I got accepted! Yey! There is also a big project that I have been working on, not announced as of yet (though I sort of did then). However, watch this space!

When I manage to put Minecraft and Skyrim down for 10 minutes I will start adding some serious content on here, until then, there is an entire internet to explore!

Thanks

My New Video Stream

As the more astute of you will have noticed, the top bar of the site now includes a link to my live video feed! How exciting!

This won’t be a 24 hour feed, I will simply turn it on when I’m busy working on my projects, just allows everybody to see what I’m working on, and how I work :-) It may be of use to you, it may not…But if I don’t try we’ll never find out!

New Content: Coming Soon

So there hasn’t ever really been a lot of content on this site. The main reason for this is a lack of will on my part, however I realise I need to put something on here soon, as my personal projects begin to take shape.

I have always wanted to make some written content in the form of programming tutorials however these have been done time and time again, and there really isn’t any need to go over the same thing again and again when there are perfectly good resources out there.

I have decided to instead link to good tutorials for various languages and point people towards some books when they are worth a mention.

My new content will come in a different form, helping advanced/expert level programmers out, the internet tends to die a bit of a death when it comes to helping seasoned programmers with getting to grips with new API’s or tips and tricks with various languages.

I hope this will help fill a bit of a void and prove useful to somebody, saving some people the turmoil of trying to figure it out for themselves.

Of course, no tutorial content is complete without at least one language tutorial, so I will try and cover tutorials for the less used languages of the world, ones which people don’t use because of the lack of support in the hopes that this will reignite them a little bit. I have a few programming languages I am prepared to do this for, and will be looking into creating the content for these over the coming months.

You should begin to see new content popping up sooner rather than later, and I will try to get a steady stream of content into the site. If anybody would like me to write a tutorial for anything programming related please get in contact and if I can help, I will.

Thanks

New Site Record :-)

Just a small mentioning, but I thought it worth noting that awood969.com reached 1000 site visits in Jan 2012 :-D Not exactly front page news, however with such little content on the site and various rehashes of the design I’m very pleased.

Just thought I would say a big thank you to anybody reading this! Much more content to come I promise, its just all very secret at the moment whilst I make it!

SOPA Dead – Now lets all breath a sigh of relief

After the recent uproar over the SOPA and PIPA legislations it looks like disaster has been averted, with a total collapse of support. Baby video’s and fan parodies on YouTube are safe once more!

The Register – SOPA is dead…

Of course, awood969.com has always had nothing but legally licensed products or my own work on it anyway :-) Which is why I never involved the site in the recent protests, but its nice to know that the latest government attempt to control the uncontrollable have been thwarted :-)
